RECRUITMENT FAQ

  • What qualities does Phi Sigma Rho focus on?

Phi Sigma Rho is a sorority for female engineering and engineering technologies majors. Because of this we strongly focus on a balance between social and academic life. We focus on aspects of philanthropy, scholarship, encouragement, and sisterhood. We help female engineers gain a suppport system within a male dominated field while also providing fun and encouraging events to destress from classes while bonding with sisters.

  • What majors are eligible to join Phi Rho?

All engineering and engineering technology majors within the College of Engineering at MSU are eligible to join.

  • Is there a GPA requirement to be a part of Phi Sigma Rho?

Yes. In order to be eligible to receive a bid a potential candidate must possess a GPA of 2.8 or higher. Once initiated, an active sister must maintain a GPA of at least 2.5.

  • Does it cost money to be in this sorority?

Yes. During the education period (the first 8 weeks after a potential candidate is inducted) the dues are $335. Once initiated, the active sister dues are $285 per semester. This money goes towards national dues, insurance, and other sorority expenses such as sisterhood events, our once a semester Retreat, and Philanthropic events.

  • Does Phi Rho at MSU have a house?

We are currently working toward getting a house. We are expected to have one by the 2018-2019 school year. Once we do have a house, members are eligible to live in the house as soon as their first active semester.

  • How do I join this wonderful sorority?

We currently go through the rush process once per year, near the beginning of the fall semester. For each rush process there will be 3 rush events and to be eligible to receive a bid a potential candidate must attend at least 2 of the events. We highly encourage for potential candidates to come to as many rush events as they can to allow us to get to know them better.

  • Does Phi Sigma Rho do formal rush?

No, formal rush is usually a 2 week long process that is very time consuming. As engineers we understand that our potential candidates will most likely have a busy schedule already so we put on our own rush process.  Our rush process typically consists of 3 events, all of which are in the evening on week days.
